Me: How would you describe your style?

Emily: Colorful. I LOVE color and everything about bright colors being incorporated into outfits to add more flare! I’d say If I could give my style a title, I guess it would be urban Mod. I can be really feminine at times and then I’ll rock the flannel masculine look. I love dressing casual with masculine touches.

-How/why did you start your blog?

My best friend of over 10 years died in a car accident in September of 2011. I decided to start a blog to dedicate to her, and use my love for fashion and styling as the foundation.

-What is the biggest challenge about having a style blog?

Keeping up with outfit posts! Sometimes I’ll feel so uninspired. ESPECIALLY in the middle of the summer when I’m all sticky and sweaty and just NOT feelin’ it.

-How has your style changed/evolved since you started your blog?

My style is COMPLETELY different from when I started my blog. I’ve always been known as the “eclectic friend” who’s kinda crazy and dresses a little bizarre, but it’s definitely gotten more preppy-friendly since I work for one of the preppiest brands in fashion footwear.
-If you could have any clothing item right now, what would it be?
This mustard dress with blue bows from Ruche that I’ve been eyein’.

-Who has been your fashion inspiration?

Audrey Hepburn, Marcus Mumford, Zooey Deschanel

-What are some of your favorite fashion tips/tricks you would pass on to a little sister or your future daughter?

Quantity does not mean quality. Buying a fafillion things at Forever21 or H&M is not wise in opinion. Those pieces will last 1-4 wears in my opinion and then you have to throw them away. You also can’t resell those pieces as easily.

-What’s your biggest fashion mistake?

I got into a thrifting frenzy a couple years ago, and I started purchasing pieces just because I could, and then I never wore them because they were pieces of junk. SO I rarely thrift now. I save thrifting for vintage pieces only.

-What’s your favorite place to shop?

Modcloth & Anthropologie (they’re a tie)

image 3

-What article of clothing do you find you wear on repeat?

Jeans. I love jeans.

-Where do you get your outfit ideas from?

Myself. Pinterest. Current trends.

-What is the best way to spend $50?

Groceries. I know that’s not fashion-related, but I find myself budgeting out fashion before food. That’s never good. Ha!

-Who is your celebrity style inspiration?

Carey Mulligan, Emma Stone

-What item is without fail, always in your purse?

My patchouli homemade scent, my wallet, chapstick

-What do you think are five key pieces every woman should own?

A little black dress, a white tee, a nice pair of straight-legged stretchy jeans, a pair of nude flats, and a poncho

 Happy Fashion Friday!

I love my middle name. In fact, I love it so much (combined with the fact that NO ONE can pronounce my first name) that when I go to restaurants and they ask for my name, I tell them it’s Annie (my middle name is Anne, but I love Annie as a first name…and don’t you think I look like an Annie?). I also love to know people’s middle names. I am a middle-name-knowing-hoarder. I can’t stand when people don’t have middle names. It’s like life has not been fair to them and dealt them the short stick. I say, if your parents did not take the time to bless you with a middle name, then make one up! Or I’ll make it up for you…because we all know how much I love to name things. 😉

Style Blogger Interview: Knocked Up Fabulous

When I first stumbled upon April’s blog Knocked Up Fabulous, I first thought, “I LOVE this girl’s style!” As I read more, I realized she is not only a style blogger, but a working, thrift store loving mom like myself and I then thought, “If we lived in the same city, we could totally be friends.” I’m so excited to share April’s interview with you and am honored that she took the time to answer my questions. Hop on over to her blog or find her on Instagram for more pictures of her amazing outfits and gorgeous red hair.

Me: How would you describe your style?

April: I’ve always had a hard time labeling my style…but I’d say experimental with touches of glamour.

-How/why did you start your blog?

During my first pregnancy, I totally didn’t feel like myself!  It was like some crazy, out-of-body experience.  So when I got pregnant with number two, I knew I didn’t want to resort to my husband’s t-shirts and sweatpants again!  I started Knocked Up Fabulous as a motivational tool for me…and to help inspire other moms.  I has evolved lots since then!

-What advice would you give to other mothers about dressing up every day or being stylish?

I hear a lot from women, especially moms, say that they don’t have the time to “dress up” or “look good”.  But for me it’s all about planning ahead.  I pick and iron a week’s worth of outfits on Sundays.  I wash my hair in the evenings (then usually braid or twist it) to save time in the morning.  And most importantly, I am very familiar with my body type and only purchase clothes that flatter my figure.  So really, I think it’s just about being aware and thinking ahead!

-What is the biggest challenge about having a style blog?

Right now, it’s about finding the time!  Having a fashion blog is not just about putting outfits together and taking pictures.  There’s editing, promotion via social media, connecting with other bloggers, researching trends and events, emails with companies and such…it’s really a full-time gig!

-What are some of your favorite fashion tips/tricks you would pass on to a little sister or your future daughter?

Funny you should ask!  I wrote a post about lessons to teach my daughter.  You can see that here.

-What’s your biggest fashion mistake?

Wearing clothes that I saw on someone else.  She looked fabulous in it, but it ended up looking horrible on me.  Lesson learned?  Always be yourself!

-What’s your favorite place to shop?

I’m a happy camper at thrift stores and vintage jewelry shops!

025

-What article of clothing do you find you wear on repeat?

With fall quickly approaching, I know that I’ll be getting tons of use out of my green army jacket from Loft.  I can seriously wear that thing everyday and not get tired of it.

-Where do you get your outfit ideas from?

I kind of look to see what trends are up in the horizon and then I just “shop” my closet or fill in the blanks from thrifting.  Mostly though I just find a little time during the week to play “dress up” with my clothes and before I know it, I’ve put together 4 or 5 outfits.

011

-What is the best way to spend $50?

Oh, that’s easy…thrifting!  With fifty bucks, I can easily find 7 or so “new” pieces for my wardrobe.

-What item is without fail, always in your purse?

I always have some sort of lip color, cash (well, most days anyway), fruit leather for the kids, and a handful of bobby pins.

Happy Fashion Friday!
