Say My Name, Say My Name

First off, I sincerely apologize to anyone who now has that Destiny’s Child song (above in the title) now stuck in their head. It’s totally stuck in mine on crazy repeat. Blerg. I have an unusual name. I get that. My parents chose it because they wanted me to be unique (and oh boy did I live up to that…muhaha!). It’s not a name you see very often or ever, so it makes sense that you wouldn’t know how to pronounce it. It’s Rena, pronounced like “Tina” with an “R” or like “Reno” with an “A” on the end. I honestly don’t know how I can make it clearer to people that that’s how you say it. Should I change the spelling to “Rina” (because personally I think this would be pronounced like something rhyming with “tin” as in “tin can”)?! I have been at the same job for seven years and no matter how many times I correct some people, they say my name wrong. I get “Ray-na” a lot. It didn’t used to bug me, but now it does. Maybe because my last name is now also commonly mispronounced (stinkin’ Germans). I make a conscious effort to say people’s name right now because of how much it bothers me. Do people pronounce your name wrong? If so, does it drive you crazy?

Zookeeper Princess

Funny story about this outfit…right before I left for work my boys said I looked like a “zookeeper princess”, which was totally the look I was going for. Ha!

I’ve been catching up on my TV shows and I came to a realization: I get extremely anxious whenever there is a scene filmed in a car. The characters might just be having a conversation about a murder case they are working on or about their tumultous relationship as they peacefully drive along, but the whole time I’m sitting there biting my nails just waiting for their car to be hit. Because you know that happens all the time! They are driving along and from out of nowhere someone t-bones them and the scene ends and you are left sitting there in shock wondering if your beloved characters are alright! Am I the only one that does this? Is there a name for this phobia? I deem it “carsceneaphobia”. I’m thinking about getting a prescription for some anxiety meds just to get me through these season finales. 😉

What My Mom Taught Me About Fashion

This post is majoring lacking in pictures and I apologize. Apparently tracking down pictures of my mom is quite difficult. But I promise you, she has quite the fashion sense. It’s genetic, duh.

Since it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, I wanted to point out a few tips my mom taught me:

-Work your curves. Always accentuate what you got with some well-placed darts and a flared out skirt. (And I’ve inherited quite the curves from her side of the family that I’m quite proud of.)

-Accessorize. My mom is the best at wearing fabulous jewelry, especially pearls.

-Rock bangs, no matter how short they are. If you see in the top right picture, my mom had some shorty bangs. This may have been because my grandma didn’t know when to quit cutting and not because it was the trend at the time…

-Don’t buy anything full price. We ladies love a good sale/clearance rack.

AND

-Wear colors that flatter you. My mom is really good at wearing colors that work well with her skin tone and taught me to avoid colors that make your skin look like you are suffering from food poisoning (for me it’s chartreuse…bleh).

I’m so thankful for her and for the things that I’ve learned from her throughout my life. She is a fabulous mom/grandma and I continue to look up to her, even though she is six inches shorter than me. 😉
