If You Like It Then You Shoulda Put A Bow On It

Posted on

(I must be in a Beyonce mood this week, since this is the second week I’ve brought up one of her songs. But they’re so darn catchy!)

I know bows are sometimes considered juvenile or too young for an adult to wear, but I strongly disagree.

Here is my argument FOR the bow and four ways it could be worn:

1. With a bun for a pop of color.

2. Hold hair back slightly on side (this would work great with a set of swoopy bangs).

3. At the end of a braid.

4. At the top of a collar (instant bow tie!)

So…did I sell you? Are you going to start wearing bows?

Happy Fashion Friday!

Not A Team Player

I was going to write this post and tell you how non-athletic I am, in my wonderful self-depricating ways. But then I thought about it and realized, I’m not “non-athletic”, I just really suck at team sports. In high school, I ran varsity track with the 100 meter hurdles being my event and I loved it, so I’m fully capable of competing in an athletic event as long as it’s just me and myself to take care of. Don’t get me wrong, I love cheering on my teammates and encouraging anyone, but I’m severely lacking in the competitive category. I don’t really give a darn if we win or lose, I just enjoy playing. When I was in first grade, I played soccer (Go Mermaids!). First off, not too many 6-year-olds are into team sports, but I was the worst. I would stand in the middle of the field, picking flowers and talking to the other team members (“Hi, I’m Rena, what’s your name?”), all while the ball flew past me. So next time we are lined up to choose teams and you’re the team captain, might wanna pass on me and just let me sit on the sidelines with my pom-poms.

What My Mom Taught Me About Fashion

This post is majoring lacking in pictures and I apologize. Apparently tracking down pictures of my mom is quite difficult. But I promise you, she has quite the fashion sense. It’s genetic, duh.

Since it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, I wanted to point out a few tips my mom taught me:

-Work your curves. Always accentuate what you got with some well-placed darts and a flared out skirt. (And I’ve inherited quite the curves from her side of the family that I’m quite proud of.)

-Accessorize. My mom is the best at wearing fabulous jewelry, especially pearls.

-Rock bangs, no matter how short they are. If you see in the top right picture, my mom had some shorty bangs. This may have been because my grandma didn’t know when to quit cutting and not because it was the trend at the time…

-Don’t buy anything full price. We ladies love a good sale/clearance rack.

AND

-Wear colors that flatter you. My mom is really good at wearing colors that work well with her skin tone and taught me to avoid colors that make your skin look like you are suffering from food poisoning (for me it’s chartreuse…bleh).

I’m so thankful for her and for the things that I’ve learned from her throughout my life. She is a fabulous mom/grandma and I continue to look up to her, even though she is six inches shorter than me. 😉
