Accessories and Unsolicited Advice

I am anything, but a graceful person.

I run into walls all the time, stub my toes and say stupid things. I am that person in the movie that Β just keeps talking during the silence, making you cringe and hide your face in your sofa at their awkwardness.

My husband says that 90% of my awkward moments are self-induced.

Last weekend, I ran into my son’s doctor. I went to give him a hug without thinking, because I’m a hugger.

Well, he didn’t recognize me right away and stuck his hand out to shake mine, all the while being taken completely aback by this crazy, hugging person and it was well…

AWKWARD.

So…here is my completely unsolicited advice for you. When approaching acquaintances or professionals (especially ones involved in your children’s health), SHAKE THEIR HAND.

The memory of this has haunted me all week, so I’m hoping to save some of you from making the same mistake. If there were Awkward Olympics, I would definitely be getting a gold medal in the hug/handshake debacle event. Bleh.

On another topic, let’s talk accessories.

I used to own a couple necklaces and earrings, but never remembered to wear them. It wasn’t until a couple years ago that I realized what a HUGE difference accessories can make on an outfit.

You could have a plain white tee and jeans, but then put on a long gold chain necklace and all of a sudden you looked like your outfit was planned.

A piece of jewelry has the ability to pull an outfit together.

And don’t forget a good headband or scarf. Try wearing a black tank top with a delicate headband, bright colored scarf and a jean skirt and I can guarantee you will get compliments.

SO, two reminders for today:

1. Don’t forget to use the accessories you own or go buy new pieces.

AND…

2. Leave the hugging to close friends. (Lesson learned.)

This is the angle you get when your photographer is three years old.

Growing Up

I am officially an adult.

It started out very innocently, just window shopping. And then we went in to look around.

I can’t help myself. When I walk by Banana Republic, I am compelled to go in and gawk.

We passed by some jackets and I felt it a necessity to try one on. It was PERFECT.

Sort of like a trench coat, but this had shape and wasn’t too long on me. It was the perfect weight (not too light or too heavy) and the fabric was SO soft. I really wanted it.

Thankfully I had a GAP gift certificate, since there is no way I would be able to afford it. (Did you know that you can use a Old Navy/GAP/Banana Republic gift card at any of the stores? I mean, I knew they were all under the same owner, but I had no idea the gift cards were interchangeable. How cool is that?!)

So, anyways, Banana Republic has always been my “grown up” store. I adore everything in the store, but gasp when I look at the prices, even the sales. But all the same, I hope/dream/wish on a star that SOMEDAY I will be able to resemble the mature, amazingly sophisticated mannequins.

Well, now that I’ve bought my BEAUTIFUL new jacket, I think I am officially on my way to being a grown up and I couldn’t be more pleased.

Happy Friday!

Summer Inspiration

School is out in our district, but I still have three weeks left of summer school to work. (Enter sad face here). Regardless, I am loving the long days and warm weather. And I am getting really excited for summer fashion! Here are some of my favorites:

1. SHORTS!!! Buy a knee-length pair and tuck a button-up shirt with a skinny belt and heels for a business casual look OR a flowy tank, blazer and shiny flats for evenings/weekends.

2. SKIRTS (I am still looking for the perfect maxi skirt because I don’t own one yet). Try tucking a fitted tank top into your waist, add a belt and you’ve got the perfect outfit for evening BBQs and potlucks.

3. DRESSES-Summer is wedding season and it’s the perfect outfit for hot weather.

Do you feel inspired? πŸ˜‰ What items are you stoked about?

And just in case some of you think my life is super glamorous…

My youngest has an ear infection this week and we’ve been running on limited sleep. Bleh.
