To Make The Bed Or Not To Make The Bed?

I am a fairly neat person. I have the occasional messy room (my husband would argue my use of the word occasional) and weekly sweep/mop/dust/vacuum my house. I can-not-for-the-life-of-me get myself to make my bed. I walk into other people’s spotlessly clean abodes and marvel at how “model home-esque” it is and I know that a made bed is a big part of the complete picture, but I just can’t do it. I just don’t really see the point since I’m going to get right back in it in less than a day. When I know people are going to see my room, you can be darn sure my bed will be made though and I will feel like I’ve aced my SATs, won the lottery and saved an infant from a burning building all in the same day. It’s that kind of accomplished feeling. Maybe that’s why I’ll continue to savor it for special occasions. 😉

Awkwardness, My New BFF

Oh, awkwardness. It just follows me around like a shadow. I should just start introducing people to it, like it’s my best friend, since it’s with me wherever I go. Unavoidable. This past week I had to take my son to the emergency room because we were afraid he had meningitis. The doctors checked him out and he’s just super sick, but will heal. Before we left a man came in to get our insurance information. I took one look at him and blurted out, “You look so familiar.” Not that awkward a phrase, but you should have heard the crickets chirping in uncomfortable silence and the strange look that he gave me before he continued his request for our medical card. Blerg. When am I gonna learn to keep my big mouth shut? The worst part is I SWEAR I know him, but just can’t figure out how. Double blerg.

Scarf Up-Do

During hot summer months, do you find yourself turning to the ponytail as a quick up-do to get your hair off your neck?

Well, here is a super easy alternative.

All you need is a scarf (or long piece of fabric) and a hair clip. If you’re clever, you could probably get the same effect with a hairband or bobby pins.

Start by tying the scarf around your head, leaving your hair hanging down your back. If your scarf isn’t that long, start tying in the back, so it’ll be able to tie at the top of your head.

Tie in a knot or bow at the top of your head a little off to the side. Looks good just like this, right? I would agree if it was Fall, but my neck is screaming at me that it’s hot, so let’s continue…

Twist the remainder of your hair into a slight bun and clip it at the top. If you feel so inclined, leave some hair hanging free in the front. The messier the better, in my opinion.

Then tuck the clip into the scarf to hide it. And you’re done!

How easy was that? And super stylish!

Hope you’re enjoying your summer and spending as much time outdoors as possible!
