If I were to come across a magic lamp, rubbed it and a genie came out, I’m pretty sure one of my wishes would be for this dang cough to go away and never return. My poor children have had a hacky cough off and on now for the past three months and I am ready for it to be gone. I, by some miracle, have not gotten it, although with all the drastic weather changes we’ve been having here in Southern California, it wouldn’t surprise me if my kids have allergies and this cough is just an annoying byproduct. I recently read The Fringe Hours: Making Time for You by Jessica Turner and it made me realize some things:

-I already do a pretty great job of using my “fringe hours” (those extra minutes here and there throughout your day, such as while you wait for kids at a doctor’s appointment) to do things for myself. That’s the only way I would ever get all my magazine subscriptions read.

-She had you write down a list of your hobbies to help you identify what you could be doing with that time. In that I discovered that “memory keeping” is a huge hobby of mine. I never realized that THAT particular thing was an actual hobby. I would have identified it as photography, but since I do it mainly of my children and then make family yearbooks for them, this can constitute as a hobby.

-I need to use my hours in the morning for myself, since I’m a morning person instead of laying in bed looking at my iPhone.

What are your hobbies? What time could you best utilize to spend time on you?

I recently read a book called “The Fringe Hours” (I’ll write more about it later this week) and it got me thinking about how I spend my time during the day. It shocked and disgusted me with how much time I spend staring at my phone. I would wake up and lay in bed for AN HOUR just viewing Facebook, Instagram, TimeHop and checking my email. This is time that could totally be used more wisely, like actually getting up and getting ready and not making my carpool sit and wait for me. So I made the decision to plug my phone in to charge in my bathroom at night, so I actually have to get out of bed before I can look at it and it’s totally helped cut down my usage. How much time do you spend on your iPhone every day? Keep track of it because the number might appall you.
