Is it just me or was it the 4th of July last week?!

How the heck is Halloween less than a week away!?!

Halloween Collage

In case you have a party to go to this weekend and haven’t thought of a costume yet, I’ve come up with some last-minute costume ideas that might work for you.

Don’t feel like you have to go naked for this one! Any natural looking color outfit would work like green, light brown or tan. Put a couple leaves in your hair and you could even staple or glue some to your “special places” to look like you’re “covering up”. Pick up an apple and you’re ready. If you have a pet or stuffed snake, that’s an added bonus.

I bought this dress at a garage sale and used our beer stein (you don’t have one of these laying around your house? Weird.). Pretty simple outfit, but pretty effective. Your hair could also be put in ponytails.

I also bought this outfit at a garage sale, but the same effect could be done with a long brown t-shirt you cut up and fray on the edges. I put my hair up messily and stuck sticks into it. Pick up your “club” and you’re ready.

So…this outfit is super easy if you are the mother of small boys and happen to have a lot of pirate accessories lying around your house. Otherwise, it’s easy to attach some “facial hair” to a stick and make a hook out of aluminum foil and walk around yelling “ARH!” at people as they pass.

This angelic look is easy to achieve if you have an all-white dress. If you don’t have wings like these, you could glue feathers to some cardboard and then take golden thread and loop into a halo and bobby pin to your hair.

For this maid costume, I put on an all-black outfit with heels and added a doily “apron”. I put my hair up and added a bow finishing it off with some cleaning accessories (a broom or duster would also work).

With all of these outfits, don’t forget that your hairstyle and accessories can really finish off an outfit.
For two more ideas, consider dressing up as a robber, a Mad Men character, Mary Poppins or a biker as seen hereย and here. So cute.

Lastly, how old is too old to go trick-or-treating? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Real Life

I wanted to post pictures of my closet, in case some of you were getting the idea that I’ve got some sort of glamorous set up going on.

That is not the case. This is real life. This is my closet.

It is small (I share half of it with my husband) and cramped.

My ginormous shoe collection is shoved into one shoe rack and a box. I also have a box that slides under my bed for boots, as well as the ones I wear most frequently at the top of my closet. My purses or rather large “mom bags” are precariously stacked on one another in a sideways milk carton.

I organize by skirts, shirts and dresses, but other than that it’s just stuck in where there’s space (see how the bar is bending…it was that way before we bought the house, but I’m sure I didn’t help it any).ย I also have my belts hanging on a nail on both sides of the closet.

My accessories are organized into chunky necklaces, delicate necklaces (kept in baggies to preserve them), rings, bracelets and earrings.

My foldable items are stuffed into two drawers (shirts and pants). If you could see the bottom of the shirt drawer, you’d see that it’s busted out from holding all of that weight.

And that’s what I work with every day. I try to go through it often to get rid of things I don’t use to make more space.

I have seen Sex & the City the movie and I would take the closet Mr. Big gave Carrie over a diamond ring any day because that closet was a thing of beauty. Someday I will have more space, but for now I am thankful for the space I do have.

What’s in your closet?

TV, oh sweet TV

When I was younger, we didn’t have TV. I know, shocking, right? I think my parents wanted us to get out of the house and enjoy the fresh air, whatever that’s all about. ๐Ÿ˜‰

When I was in high school, I had my friend record an entire season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for me and I watched it in secret. That was my big rebellion during my teenage years. (P.S. How do I raise my kids to be just like me? Ha!)

When I got to college, I became obsessed with TV now that I had the freedom to watch it whenever I wanted. I would watch up to four or five shows a night. Studying, what’s studying? There was none of that to be done when I could laugh at Lorelai & Rory’s sarcastic banter or freak out about Felicity cutting her hair.

So, now that it is fall, you know I am a happy person. All of my shows are back on and I can contentedly make sure I keep up with all of them on hulu.com. (best.invention.ever.)

I thought to pay homage to my sweet obsession, I would do a post on the fashion of some of my favorite shows.

New Girl

If I could steal borrow replicate any character’s wardrobe, it would be Jess Day. She has a flirty, fun style that accentuates ladylike curves. Plus, she isn’t afraid of bright colors. My kinda girl.

Hart of Dixie

This show is about a New York doctor that ends up working in a small town in Alabama. Rachel Bilson wears designer clothing and makes anything look good on her petite body.

Revenge

This story takes place in the Hamptons, so the lead character, Emily Thorne is always pulled together and classy, even if she’s wearing jeans. Not a lot of color or fancy accessories, but so grown up and sophisticated in neutrals with simple, elegant details.

Up All Night

Christina Applegate’s character is the epitome of a non-frumpy mom. I love how she is a working mother and has the perfect balance between girly, comfortable and professional.

How I Met Your Mother

I have drooled over Robin and Lily’s outfits since season 1. They do casual perfectly with a lot of sweaters, rad boots and belts.

Jane By Design

This show on ABC Family is one of my favorites. It centers around a design company in New York, so of course the wardrobes are uniquely phenomenal. I only wish I was half as cute and sassy as Jane when I was in high school.

Once Upon A Time

Centering in a small Maine town, this show involves a lot of hats and coats. Every time I see Ginnifer Goodwin in her precious pixie cut, I want to cut my hair really short. Thoughts?

ย Royal Pains

This show is all sorts of cheesy, but I can’t stop watching. Also taking place in the Hamptons, the actors are always incredibly dressed. Plus, I could do an entire post on Divya’s accessories! She has the best necklace and earring options.

What are some of your favorite shows?
