Necessities and Priorities
My absolutely beautiful friend Courtney of See Jane Advocate asked me to join her this month on a shopping fast. She will be buying only what is necessary, such as groceries and other daily necessities. Her desire is to be more focused, therefore removing distraction and at the end of the month, she will reward herself with something pretty.
I quickly agreed to join her, although I don’t think I really thought it through before agreeing. I am happy to be able to keep her accountable and am interested to see what I learn about myself through the process, although I am fully aware that this will be challenging.
In less than 24 hours, I have already realized:
-I think about shopping a lot!
-Online coupon deals (AKA Groupon) are the hardest for me to avoid.
-I really enjoy the process of shopping, even just wandering through stores (I’m pretty sure that’s why they call it retail THERAPY). 😉
I’m going to focus on what I already own and be thankful for everything that Christ has blessed with me with because I know that I can survive with much less. Plus, the best blessings I’ve received can not be bought in a store anyways.
Care to join us or keep us accountable to not shop for a month? It’s only for August and if I’ve learned that much about myself in a day, imagine what will be revealed by the end of the month.
LOVE that gold heart necklace!!! Can I call dibs if you ever give that away?
For sure! I will keep it in mind, although I don’t know if I’ll EVER get rid of it. 😉
Yes! BTW, I’ve already caught myself going to my favorite online shopping sites out of habit! ARG! This is gonna be tough. 😦 But I, for one, am proud of us. Go us! 🙂
I’ve been deleting all my email deals before I look at them, so as not to tempt myself. But I find that when I’m in the car by myself, I really want to stop at a store just because. We can do it though!!! Go us!!!
Glad you finally had a realization about how much you shop/like to. ha ha ha.
P.S. Your face in that last photo is funny.
