Throw Away 50 Things

Hi, my name is Rena and I am a hoarder.

Okay, so I wouldn’t say I’m 100% a hoarder, but I definitely have hoarder tendencies.

I want to say it got passed down to me by my depression-era surviving grandma and a mentality of completely finding every use possible for the things you own.

Well, this girl just happened to marry a boy who is a 100% purger. He throws stuff away before he’s even done using it. No joke.

My cousin sent me a link to this article from the Art of Doing Stuff blog.

I’ll admit when I first read “Get rid of 50 things” I was taken back.

50 things?!! I mean, maybe I can get rid of 20 things, but 50?! That’s a ton!

After days weeks of pondering about this and thinking of things I could get rid of, I took a box and wandered around my house filling it up with things I don’t need.

This process probably took me a half an hour and here’s what I collected.

50 Things 2

50 Things 1

And do you know what my total was? 54 things!!!!

It was so easy and I could totally keep going!

Plus, that doesn’t even include the gigantic amount of clothes I am getting rid of/selling.

I challenge you to get rid of 50 things. It’s completely freeing.

Go. Now. Do it!

Small Accomplishments

Warning: This post contains a graphic, disturbing picture. Don’t look at it on an empty stomach or standing up. 😉

I work full time, have a house, a husband & two kids and blog as much as possible. Unfortunately the first thing to go by the wayside is housework. It also doesn’t help that it’s my least favorite thing & I’m not very good at it.

All that to say, I finally got around to cleaning my floors today after their grimy, disgusting surfaces stared at me for weeks.

And no this is not an advertisement for Swiffer, but because of their products and the twenty minutes I took out of my evening, my floors are now clean and my heart feels a bit lighter.

It’s funny how the little things like clean floors can make your outlook on life so much brighter.

5 Things I Never Knew About Boys

2012-11-26_1353972311

I grew up with two sisters. I also have ten girl cousins. And I never really had an guy friends. I’m a girl’s girl, what can I say.

So, it’s been sort of a shock to be the mother of two boys.

They are so different from girls and completely different from what I expected.

Here are five things I never knew about boys.

1. Everything is something to be climbed or jumped off of.

You wouldn’t believe how long it takes us to get from the parking lot into church every week because every step/rock/stair has to be conquered.

2. They are incredibly cuddly.

I don’t know if this applies to all boys, but my two sons need constant love. If I am sitting down, there is at least one kid in my lap.

3. Matchbox cars go everywhere.

My sons have a huge collection of Matchbox cars and they both bring them everywhere we go. It’s amazing to me how entertained they can be with such a tiny toy. Plus, I now have at least one in my purse all the time.

4. They run into things full speed head first.

It astounds me that my sons will run towards an object at full speed and don’t ever slow down until they hit it with their heads. Every time I think they will slow down before they get to it, but every time they continue right into their desired target, usually me (see below).

5. They hurt their mommy a lot.

Let me clarify that my children NEVER intentionally hurt me, but not a day goes by that one of my kids doesn’t end up bonking their rock hard noggins into mine, step on my toes or head butt my abdomen area. I’m hoping they grow out of this painful clumsiness, but I’m thinking I’m stuck getting tromped on for a while.

As crazy as boys are, I really enjoy their energy and their constant sweetness.

But don’t think that doesn’t mean I’m not praying my hardest that the next one isn’t a girl! 😉
