What I Was Doing When I Wasn’t Doing What I Was Supposed To Be Doing

In college, my room was never cleaner than during midterms and finals. I am not a fan of cleaning, but when it was time to buckle down and study (something I’m also not a fan of), I all of sudden couldn’t look past my clothes that weren’t put away or my messy bathroom counter. How could I sit and focus when these messes were practically screaming at me to be picked up?! And so came the term my cousin coined so perfectly:

I am a productive procrastinator.

Just give me a deadline and that other thing that I’ve been waiting forever to do and dreading, will magically get finished. Does anyone else do this? Nope? Just me? Figures.

Here’s a fun game to play in the car. Perfect for road trips or just to make your usual everyday drive more exciting.

Your name is your “call in button”. Put your radio on scan (Note: This works better in more urban cities that have a lot of stations, although where I live every other station is in Spanish, so sometimes that plan backfires). In the three seconds or so that it is playing a song, try to be the first to “call in” and name the singer. After you buzz in, you have about a second and a half before the other players are allowed to buzz in and you lose your turn.

Example:

(turns radio to scan)

Me: “Rena! Maroon 5!”

And I get a point.

We play it so that if you call a wrong band, then you get a minus point (although we don’t really keep track of points, just the glorious pride of getting it right before your spouse is usually enough of a prize).

Enjoy!

Here are five things I know to be true:

1. If there is ice cream in my house, I will consume it.

2. The forward facing feature on the iPhone camera is totally cheating when it comes to taking selfies.

3. My husband, who proclaimed to hate brussel sprouts when we first got married six years ago, just bought some when he went to the store by himself. I consider my job as a wife a success.

4. Finding a hair stuck under your shirt the first time you try to find it is like winning the lottery.

5. I know all the names to the boys in One Direction and as much as I say it’s because I work with middle schoolers, it’s because I secretly like them. There will always be a special place in my heart for boy bands (although N*SYNC will always be the best…no question).
