Semi-Schizophrenic

Posted on

My husband laughed the other night when I picked my pillow up to fluff it. I asked him what was so funny and he said, “You are such a schedule follower. You do the same things every night with rigid accuracy and yet you are the most spontaneous person too.” Does that make me semi-schizophrenic? That I have to have my ducks in a row and yet can fly by the seat of my pants and am perfectly content when nothing gets done? In truth it just means that I am a freakishly lazy control freak. Ha! That makes perfect sense, right?

This morning though, to mix things up, I completely forgot to set an alarm and woke up an hour late. Jumping out of bed in a panic, I gathered myself together and walked out the door ten minutes later. So much for routine…

Sleeping With A Leech

We don’t let our kids sleep with us, but our youngest has been sneaking into our bed early in the morning. Sleeping with him is like sleeping with a leech. I wouldn’t mind cuddling with him if he stayed on his own side of the bed, but insists on shoving his tiny body against me. He might as well be back in utero except that now he has the ability to kick me in the face. He has to always be touching me while he sleeps to confirm that I am still there, but the only thing he is confirming is that I won’t be going back to sleep.

Happy Birthday, Bloggy Blog Giveaway!

It’s been one year since I started doing Fashion Friday.

It’s crazy to me that a year has gone by already. That it’s been a year since I decided to actually use my photography blog (which has now been co-opted by some Polish hackers…grrrr) since it was being paid for and not used. I was already taking pictures of my outfits, so I figured I would share it with the little corner of the internet that cared to stop by.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would be posting at least three times a week and that I would have as many followers as I do.

My beautiful friend Myste has an magical way with a crochet hook and yarn and makes the cutest/coolest little items. Both of my boys are lucky enough to have a blanket from her.

She sent me this headband and I am in love. It’s crazy how just covering your ears can keep you so warm.

To help me celebrate, Myste has generously agreed to a giveaway. One lucky winner will win a $10 credit to her etsy shop, French Fabrications.

The Power of Accessories

Roll on over to Life As Mom and check out my guest post about Accessorizing Yourself!

Honest confession, I have been too exhausted to put my contacts on. Which means I have to literally stick my face IN my makeup bag to see what I’m pulling out. I’d say I’m “as blind as a bat”, but wouldn’t that mean I’d have no sight AND also have sonar capabilities? 😉

And I’ll leave you with a little story.

One night last week, as we walked out of Home Depot and Liam carried the box of things we just purchased, a lady, who had parked right near the exit to the store, asked us “Is that my box of stuff?”

Flustered and completely confused, I replied, “No, we just bought this.”

She then said, “Well, EXCUUUUUUUSE me.” (As if we had just offended her.)

I really don’t know what to make of this little conversation. Did she think a 4-year-old worked at Home Depot and was bringing out a box to her?! So very random.

Have a fabulous day!!

Closet Staple: Jean Jacket

Posted on

I have had this jacket for years and it is one of the most worn items in my closet.

I love that it can be paired with any dress, skirt or skinny jean combo and matches practically everything.

When purchasing a jean jacket look for:

1. A smaller size. A larger size or even your normal size, could add unnecessary bulk. Aim for one size smaller than you usually wear.

2. A lightweight fabric. A jacket that is softer will be easier to move in, give you a softer look and obviously be more comfortable. If possible, buy a used jacket for that already “lived-in” feel.

3. A medium-colored wash. This color will have the most versatility and will transcend trends, therefore extending the amount of time you’ll be able to wear it.

If you haven’t yet, you should consider adding a jean jacket to your wardrobe soon!

Our morning started out a bit differently than most Sundays.

We had a sleepover at a friend’s house (first time for my boys) AND it was the time change, so all that combined we had  a very sleepy day.

We started the morning off by eating oranges in the sunshine.

While we grownups got to juicin’ and drank our veggies.

We dyed some jeans. (I’ll do my best to follow up with a completed project pic in the near future.)

Then we hit up a local thrift store. We might have been insane taking four kids shopping during nap time, but they were all surprisingly well-behaved.

photo 2

Great friends don’t need to be asked to buckle your kids in. They just do it.

photo 1

This kid decided to fall asleep AS we turned onto our street and promptly woke up again as soon as the car stopped. Grr.

photo 5

I spent nap time (once they finally fell asleep) making this ornament garland. I’m so excited with how it turned out!

My favorite snack lately is bananas with honey roasted almond butter. So delicious.

photo 4

The exhaustion finally overwhelmed me and I crashed on the couch. What is it about mommy laying down that makes kids need your immediate and full attention?!

photo 3

Lastly we decided to take our dinner up on the hill above our house to try to catch a glimpse of the comet. My husband and his love for astronomy keeps our life interesting.

How was your Sunday? Hope you’re feeling refreshed and ready to start the week tomorrow!
