My husband is the most trustworthy man I know…except when I have something in my teeth. I constantly ask him after I’ve eaten if I have stuff in my teeth. And more than once, he says I am “fine” only for me to later discover I have a tiny piece of black pepper stuck between my front tooth and gums. In his book this is “fine”, but in mine, it is not okay. Thankfully I have my incredibly trustworthy reverse iPhone camera to make sure I really am “fine”, since I HATE talking to people and later finding out I have nasty objects obstructing my smile.

Open Mouth, Insert Everything

My son is nine months old. I love this stage. He crawls around everywhere, has started doing funny things to make us laugh and his language skills are expanding daily. But I am totally over his “learning by putting everything in his mouth” stage. Because he crawls everywhere (and super fast too…his older brother calls him a “baby cheetah”), he finds stuff that we don’t in little crevices and under tables and shoves it in his mouth. He is also so grabby, so eating any of your own food around him is nearly impossible.

There is inspiration everywhere! I find most of my outfit ideas from magazines (like this one above, which was part of an ad), Pinterest and TV. Finding new outfits to try is not just a great way to stretch yourself out of your “style comfort zone”, but also to find new ways to use the items you already have in your wardrobe.

I CHALLENGE YOU to put together a new outfit, take a pic of yourself in it and also send me a pic of the outfit that inspired you. Then send the two pics to my email at

thegirlwiththesmileblog@gmail.com

Send the pics by Monday, March 2nd and I’ll post some of your fun outfit pics to inspire others! Let’s rally!

My friend mentioned to me that she had been washing her face with coconut oil. At first I thought this was crazy talk. I mean, who has ever heard of washing your face with oil?! But I was desperate because my acne was getting out of control. So I started washing my face every night and it works! It’s totally evened out my complexion and even minimized my pores (although I should point out that I NEVER really wash my face, so just doing that might also be the reason my pimples are disappearing). All you do is rub a tiny bit of coconut oil on your dry face in circles for a minute or so and then run a washcloth under hot water and place it on your face to open your pores. I do this twice. Then you just wipe off the excess oil. I’ve been following it up by spot treating my blemishes with tea tree oil, cedarwood oil or lavender oil. Try it and let me know how it works for you!

If I were to come across a magic lamp, rubbed it and a genie came out, I’m pretty sure one of my wishes would be for this dang cough to go away and never return. My poor children have had a hacky cough off and on now for the past three months and I am ready for it to be gone. I, by some miracle, have not gotten it, although with all the drastic weather changes we’ve been having here in Southern California, it wouldn’t surprise me if my kids have allergies and this cough is just an annoying byproduct. The Fringe Hours

I recently read The Fringe Hours: Making Time for You by Jessica Turner and it made me realize some things:

-I already do a pretty great job of using my “fringe hours” (those extra minutes here and there throughout your day, such as while you wait for kids at a doctor’s appointment) to do things for myself. That’s the only way I would ever get all my magazine subscriptions read.

-She had you write down a list of your hobbies to help you identify what you could be doing with that time. In that I discovered that “memory keeping” is a huge hobby of mine. I never realized that THAT particular thing was an actual hobby. I would have identified it as photography, but since I do it mainly of my children and then make family yearbooks for them, this can constitute as a hobby.

-I need to use my hours in the morning for myself, since I’m a morning person instead of laying in bed looking at my iPhone.

What are your hobbies? What time could you best utilize to spend time on you?

I recently read a book called “The Fringe Hours” (I’ll write more about it later this week) and it got me thinking about how I spend my time during the day. It shocked and disgusted me with how much time I spend staring at my phone. I would wake up and lay in bed for AN HOUR just viewing Facebook, Instagram, TimeHop and checking my email. This is time that could totally be used more wisely, like actually getting up and getting ready and not making my carpool sit and wait for me. So I made the decision to plug my phone in to charge in my bathroom at night, so I actually have to get out of bed before I can look at it and it’s totally helped cut down my usage. How much time do you spend on your iPhone every day? Keep track of it because the number might appall you.
